A Message from the Chair
Over the past decade, the Greater Nottingham Partnership has enhanced the regeneration scene within Nottingham and its surrounding areas, uniting the public, private, local authority, voluntary and community sectors to further the economic and social agendas across the whole of Greater Nottingham. The establishment of the GNP as a Sub-regional Strategic Partnership in 2002 under the leadership of Keith Stanyard accelerated this process, adding further value centred around the Regional Economic Strategy. Building on this success, and in collaboration with the East Midlands Development Agency and other key partners, the GNP board and staff will continue to play a central role in transforming Greater Nottingham into a leading European conurbation. The 'Core City' status recently afforded to Nottingham has encouraged a fresh analysis, which together with the work undertaken by Professor Michael Parkinson of Liverpool John Moore’s University in establishing a set of criteria for a modern and successful city, has facilitated the development of a new strategy for Greater Nottingham. Created through a series of focus groups and cross-sector discussions, the resulting ‘Core City Strategy’ was published as Drawing Together: The Development Strategy for Greater Nottingham, and sets out an original vision for the conurbation. Drawing Together and its subsequent action plans will define the investment strategies of the GNP and its partners for future years, and will make a valuable contribution to improving the aspirations and opportunities for everyone in both the city and Greater Nottingham.
