The Greater Nottingham Development Strategy
Nottingham is now one of eight designated English 'Core Cities', recognised by central government as being the most important drivers of the national economy outside of London. In response to this initiative, the Greater Nottingham Partnership has created the Greater Nottingham Development Strategy, combining the views, ambitions and strategies of key local stakeholders and partners to create a shared vision for the Nottingham conurbation for the first time. The overarching vision of the Greater Nottingham Development Strategy is that by 2010 Nottingham will be recognised as a leading UK city and will have a strong international profile, driving the competitiveness of the East Midlands. The city's wealth will have grown beyond the UK average and more of this prosperity will have been retained for our communities and businesses. In 2004, the GNP published Drawing Together: Nottingham as a Core City. Drawing Together was the first attempt to sketch out a shared vision for the conurbation and explored various possible approaches for creating an overarching development strategy for the whole of Greater Nottingham, inviting both comment and constructive criticism. Building on the success of Drawing Together, The Story Unfolds set out a shared manifesto for Nottingham, outlining deatiled action plans based on eight agreed development themes. These highlighted a series of key strategic issues that were recognised by all stakeholders and partners as being vital to future development of the conurbation; identifying lead organisations, actions and timescales that would facilitate the development of greater partnership working and pooling of resources. By defining the roles of key partners and stakeholders, the GNP hopes to facilitate greater partnership working across the conurbation, resulting in real and visible change for all Greater Nottingham residents and businesses. Both Drawing Together and The Story Unfolds are available in hard copy format.
