Background

The GNP's Tourism, Leisure and Culture Strategy Action Team was estabished in 2003 to address tourism, leisure and cultural issues within Greater Nottingham.

The overall objective of the TLC SAT is to assist with the developmet of the sub-region's tourism, leisure and cultural infrastructure to ensure that Nottingham is recognised as being the cultural capital of the East Midlands, while also helping to provide high-quality offerings to both visitors and residents alike.

The TLC SAT is chaired by Tim Desmond, Chief Executive of NCCL Galleries of Justice, and contains representatives from Experience Nottinghamshire, the Nottinghamshire Rural Community Council, the Learning and Skills Council, the National Ice Centre, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham Playhouse, and the City and County Councils.

Strategic Priorities

Following the 2005 review of Sub-regional Strategic Partnerships and the publication of the revised Regional Economic Strategy, A Flourishing Region, the TLC SAT has formulated a new series of strategic objectives on the basis of which it will look to develop its work programme.

These objectives have been included within the GNP's new Sub-regional Investment Plan for the 2007-2010 financial period and reflect the main priorities outlined within relevant national, regional and local strategies, also taking into account the individual tourism, leisure and cultural needs of Greater Nottingham.

During the 2007-2010 financial period, the TLC SAT will receive approximately £500,000 (£300,000 capital and £200,000 revenue) per annum to invest within Greater Nottingham.

In order to enhance the sub-region's tourism, leisure and cultural offer, the TLC SAT has agreed to focus its resources on three main areas of work, which are as follows:

  • The development of infrastructure to improve the sub-region’s tourism, leisure and cultural provision
  • The improvement of marketing and communications to promote the sub-regional offer
  • The provision of skills and training to support workforce development within the sub-region’s tourism, leisure and cultural industries
